My sister got married last week… The first photo is the two of us in 1981!

Ok… Just looking through the internet about my hometown and found out that one of my classmates and friends all the way through school is now a professional wrestler? talk about random!
Last Sunday was an interesting day for me. After my big sister took her nuptials on Friday our family headed over to Palatka for a few days. Palatka is the town both Jennifer and I grew up in. It is your typical small town but with a special place in our hearts. It has a big bridge, a crazy pentecostal, a town celebrity and pretty good bait shop. There is not a Starbucks for 20 miles.
My father in law (who became a youth pastor a few years back) went through his ordination counsel and ordination on Sunday. The church asked me to preach the service which was quite an honor for me. I really interesting situation to sit on a counsel to publicly question the calling, competence and gifting of your father-in-law. The service was great, a packed house and the Lord really confirmed his call to my pops! Way to go TLG.
I am in Florida for the week for my sisters wedding. Today I went to my a Alma-Matta where my mother-in-law is a Bible teacher to high school students. She had this sweet bulleton board to remind the students that God uses all kinds of goobers to carry out his plans. Had some pretty funny stuff on it (Click photo to enlarge). I laugh to think that I once accused the Bible of being boring…. I think I am the boaring one.
Here are a few of the items:
Isaiah preached naked
Leah was ugly
Noah was a drunk
The Samaritian woman was divorced more than once.
David had an affair
Moses studdered
Lazarus was dead
This morning I preached a pretty disturbing message. It is based on this passage. King David, with great motives wants to show God how much he loves Him and gets this rad idea. Since God’s been living like a gypsy from town to town David comes up with a plan to build God a cedar house. Sounds like a good idea and I find myself agreeing with the plan. David even mentions the idea to his trusted friend Nathan and gets a big thumbs up. Then later that night when Nathan’s getting his jammies on God starts blasting the plan reminding Nathan that He never asked for a house and he is perfectly content in his tent. – I don’t know that I have had an experience where I felt more like the Bible was pointing it’s finger in my face.
So when I was in college Jennifer (then only my girlfriend) and I were up early one sunday morning getting ready to drive to church. We were just turning on to Rt. 77 when we saw THIS in the Hardees parking lot. It was one of the best memories that Jennifer and I have together. Not only did we see the Weinermobile but we stopped stopped and were
given the grand tour of the inside. The driver even let me sit behind the wheel. As if that wasn’t awesome enough, the driver gave us one of THESE when we left.
So today was almost that thrilling. I was on my way home from NAMB a training in Richmond when I saw the De Lorean from Back to the Future (1985). I waved at the driver and was able to snap a few quick pics before it zoomed past me. Talk about a sweet ride…

Naethan Hendrix and I spoke at a Missions Conference today in Lake Ridge. The conference was put on by Ruth Anderson and Lake Ridge BC. This church is a great story of the difference that one person can make when their heart is ablaze for the spreading of the gospel and the glory of Jesus. Ruth has as a layperson is this church has prayed and promoted missional thinking, organized dozens of international trips, lead prayer walks, distributed literature and pushed the limits of what could ever be expected of a lay person. This is a shot of Naethan Hendrix and Chris Childers who were with me for the day. The best news of the day is that this mostly barren church has decided to both adopt a UPG from Indonesia and plant a local church in the near future. Pretty Sweet
