Movie With Mom
I’m in the Sunshine State for a few days visiting my Mom and Dad. Last week both of them were hospitilized for unrelated illnesses. I arrived on Monday and have been speniding most of my time with my Mom at the hospital. For those of you who don’t know my story this is not an unfamiliar envrionment for me. When I was growing up my mom spent a lot of time in the hospital for various illnesses. I pride my self on being able to use a rubber glove for more than 100 differnt tricks. Tonight I continued the tradition as Mom and I watched “Evan Almighty” on my laptop in room 223b. We had a good time and it was great to reconnect with my Mom. The movie was another story. When I was growing up the images of God that were in my head were from movies like, “The Jesus Film” and “The Ten Commandments”. Jesus was a fair skined guy with wavy hair and an extremely bright white robe. These indeliable images formed some of my initial opinions about God and are difficult to overide with Biblical discriptions. The move made me wonder how Morgan Freeman will shape the view of God for the next generation. On a side note, I think it is humerous that hollywood basicially follow the biblical storyline until it got to the part about killing people. I guess God’s wrath wasn’t the ending they were going for.

Preaching is Hard

I have been preaching for three years this month. Before that I was a worship leader. The first time I led worship I almost threw up… but it got easier. Eventually, I got to the point that where I didn’t want to throw up.
Three years behind the sacred desk (or aluminum music stand) and I am still not comfortable with the task. Maybe this is the year I will settle in. (the picture is from Jon Samposon’s Blog.)
I hate the DMV

82 people in line… 82.
Evolve Conference
The RV stopped at the evolve conference just outside of Atlanta. A really good event, always good hanging out with other planters and hearing about how God is using them. The event really focused method and I waked away with a ton of ideas to implement. We slept in the parking lot at the church which made the commute to the conference nice.

Church Planter Road Trip
Man- What an awesome time I had with Naethan Hendrix, Jamie Limato, Jonathan Davis, Keilan Creech, Duane Eatmon & Colby Garman this week. We rented a 30ft RV (Compliments of SBCV) and headed down to Lyons, GA on Saturday morning. We went to FBC lyons a large baptist in a tiny town in GA. This church has supported our work (Pillar, Quantico, Iceland Project) for the past three years so we designed this trip to go down and say thank you to this amazing congregation. Being at Lyons FBC restored my faith in establish churches and their ability to make a significant difference in a community. We taught in all three of the worship services on Sunday and were in six of their largest Sunday school classes sharing about what the Lord is doing in Northern Virginia church planting.
I have become what I despise
I have admired the blogsphere for some time from a distance. I will admit that it is easy to make fun of blogging pastors and have joined in the fun a few times myself. But when it comes down to it blogs create this unique opportunity to share Ideas, stories and encouragement. I have gained a lot from pastors I have never met through this world. When I began reading blogs I realized that about 80% of blogging pastors post about as often as the change the oil in their car. When they do it is a long, theological and philosophical rant meant to impress the reader (seldom accomplishing that goal). The other 20% post daily and usually only a few sentences. These guys usually freely exchange interesting ideas. Since the later are the blogs I read regularly and benefit from more I wanted dirtyclint.com to be that kind of blog. Now less than a month in to the blogsphere dirtyclint.com looks like the Jiffy Lube blog. Unfortunately this is not the only area of my life that I have become what I despise.
The Housing Market
For all of you home owners who are experiencing discouragement because of the falling home values I have good news for you. For the last several weeks Jennifer and I have been trying to buy a home closer to our church. Prices are good but we have lost now 6 homes because we have been outbid by multiple offers. Maybe things are looking up!?!
